David Neel – Executive Director
David is a resident of Ventura County and was asked in 2013 to assume the operation of the foundation by museum founder, Dr. Daniel Murphy. David is an avid collector of vintage and classic automobiles, and has a passion for the collection and curation of antique travel trailers and antique camping memorabilia.
He is an active member of AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) as well as several car clubs. When not running the business of the Murphy Auto Museum, Mr. Neel spends his time as the owner of a sales agency calling on specification influencers in the electrical construction industry.
He is a past lecturer of lighting design classes at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, LA Pierce College, and Mississippi State University. He is the past two year president of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), Santa Barbara Chapter and is an affiliate member of several American Institute of Architects (AIA) Chapters throughout central California.
Dana Newquist – Director and Vice Chair
Dana is a longtime resident of Montecito, California. A native of Chicago, Dana arrived to California in the early 1970’s and has been an active member of the local Santa Barbara community. Dana is current president of the Antique Automobile Association of America (AACA) and Director/Vice Chair of the Murphy Auto Museum.
In addition, Dana is Co-Chair of the Montecito Motor Classic, founder of the Father’s Day Show at the Santa Barbara Club, Chair of the Barker Foundation, President of Montecito Historical Archives, and Board Member of Montecito Sanitation. Past positions for Mr. Newquist have been Montecito Fire Protection District, Sansum Diabetes, Central Coast Alzheimer’s Association and treasurer of the Montecito Association. Keep that motor running!
Jim Polk – Secretary
James A. Polk, Executive VP of Polk Associates, LLC provides consulting and appraisal services to private clients and commercial enterprises. A native of Oregon, Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Washington in the early 1970’s. Jim joined the American Society of Appraisers in 1997 and earned his Accredited Senior Appraiser credential in 1999. He has over 30 years of experience testifying in both civil and criminal judicial proceedings.
Following his corporate career with a Fortune 50 company, Jim has remained active in the Oil, Aircraft, RV and Automobile Industries.
Jim is active in the Airstream community and is the proud restorer of a vintage Airstream Travel Trailer and has previously restored numerous vintage motor vehicles.
Jim Crook – Treasurer
Jim Crook is the owner of Milpas Motors in Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara’s leader in high end used car specialty sales. Jim’s company specializes in the selling and locating of classics, European cars, exotics, rare cars and supercars. Jim also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara County.
Fireball Tim Lawrence - Director
Fireball Tim Lawrence (yes, that’s his legal name) is an internet personality and content creator. He is a true legend in the Car Design world, having conceived vehicles for over 400 of Hollywood’s biggest films including Batman, Knight Rider, Jurassic Park and Monster Garage.
He is a car designer, children’s book illustrator, publisher, award winning filmmaker and host on Speed Channel, TLC, Discovery, Velocity and many others. He currently writes for The Malibu Surfside News, The Malibu Times, Hidden Hills Magazine and Garagestyle. He also hosts a monthly car show called Wheels and Waves in Malibu.
Mark Stehrenberger – Director
Swiss-born Mark Stehrenberger is a car designer who lives alternately in Ventura, CA and Montreux, Switzerland, on beautiful Lake Geneva. His conceptual car illustrations have been featured in major printed and digital magazines and books worldwide for many years. His graphic and fine artworks hang in numerous private and corporate galleries and car museums.
Stehrenberger has also established an international reputation for cutting-edge design for concept cars (for car shows and car clinics), and all kinds of car products, sports equipment, shoes, luxury time pieces and eye wear, jewelry and fashion accessories, as well as medical devices. Mark’s been teaching car design at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and Art Center Europe in Vevey, Switzerland, for more than 15 years.
Stehrenberger has been featured in numerous radio and TV segments and magazine articles internationally and has written, produced and hosted various TV shows in the US and Europe on the subject of car design.
Daniel Vehse – Director
Daniel is a graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a B.S. in Product Design, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Daniel has worked for BMW Designworks, Audi, Volkswagen, BMW Formula I Racing Team, Titleist Golf and is currently an owner/project manager at Magna Classics. Daniel is also a docent at The Mullin Automotive Museum and a past Design Instructor at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Mr. Vehse has won many awards (too numerous to mention) and U.S. Design and Utility Patents.
