1965 Ford Mustang Coupe

1965 Ford Mustange Coupe

There is probably no single post World War II car that is more recognizable and universally loved than the Ford Mustang. There is something about its design and proportions that made it an instant success and a classic which will be forever timeless. They look as good today as they did when they debuted in 1964. The development and introduction of the car is amazing.

The design chiefs at Ford felt a retail price of around $2,500 was where the car needed to be in order to be successful. To do this, Ford cut costs by sharing many, if not most, of the interior, chassis, drivetrain and suspension parts with the already in production Falcon, Fairlane and Ranchero. This also shortened the learning curve for assembly and repair workers while allowing the dealers to pick up the Mustang brand without a massive investment in new parts inventory.

The Ford Mustang was brought out five months before the normal start of the 1965 production year. Original sales forecast was for 100,000 cars annually; this was surpassed in the first three months from the initial rollout. Within 18 months of introduction, the Ford Mustang sold over one million units. A legend had been born.

This car is unrestored with a V8 engine and automatic transmission. The owner has owned this Mustang since 1984 and was a daily driver until 2000 when it was parked in a garage for 16 years. In 2016 the owner towed the car to a local Mustang repair and restoration shop where she got it up and running again. We are glad to display it for our visitors.
