1953 Buick Super Woodie
This beautiful woodie station wagon has been in the same family since new. The current caretakers of the car are the granddaughter of the original owner and her husband.
There are approximately 10 of these cars known to exist out of an original production run of 1,830. All major car manufacturers had been producing woodies for many years but had the bodies made by outside companies (with the exception of Ford who built their woodies in house). 1953 was the last year that Buick would manufacture woodies, making this car even more special. The coachbuilder for this car was Ionia Coachworks of Ionia, Michigan.
Model year 1953 also debuted Buick’s new “nailhead” V8 which was a 322 cubic inch engine producing 170 horsepower for manual transmission cars and 170 horsepower for automatic transmission cars. Power steering and power brakes were options and this car has both.
